10 Jan MY NATURAL HAIR JOURNEY: AFTER THE BIG CHOP
On January 5, 2017, I gave myself the big chop. Since then, the changes I’ve experienced not only with my hair, but with my ‘being’ have been incredible. To learn about what inspired me to go natural, why I had relaxed hair, what natural hair products I use, and how people have reacted to my hair, please watch my YouTube video (below).
For those of your who do not know what a “big chop” is, Curl Centric defines the big chop as:
…the act of taking your natural hair journey from transitioning to officially 100% natural in a matter of minutes. The term “big chop” is the act of cutting off all of your relaxed hair, leaving only your beautiful new growth – which is natural hair.
Some people go to a hair salon for their big chop, others have their friends do it. I decided to do it myself, with some kitchen shears, in my bathroom. It was an exhilarating experience. Although, natural hair requires more time, products, and patience than relaxed hair, your hair will be much healthier. Going natural is a great way to become connected with yourself in its entirety. Despite having some awkward stages during this hair journey, I recommend it to anyone. It may not be for you, but I recommend trying it for a year, just once. It will truly transform your body, mind, and spirit.
